Russian Library - Monthly theme
Русская Библиотека (Russian Library) is the only place in Riga where books in Russian language are in plenty.
Due the lack of room the books had been placed in organized piles. These book columns are so tall as to reach the ceiling.
No space for Bookworms, no space for new books, even no space to put my camera to take a good shot ;)
Unfortunately Russian books will not have any place in currently building National Library, because it will be Latvian one.
Русская библиотека has website, library is located at Gertrudes iela 45.

Wonderful photo. You did a great job of capturing how packed this Russian Library is.
WOW!! What a great shot. Bookstores like this are rare now in Boston because the rental for the space is so high that second-hand bookdealers cannot afford to store stock. I LOVE bookstores like this. Just wonderful to poke around in. And so often the owners know faily well what they have & where located.
Now that is a lot of books.
The Russian Library looks like my favorite used book store. It beautifully illustrates the limited space and wealth of material!
I would love to just get lost in here. Just reading.
I thought it was a second hand bookshop (the type I love and can get lost in for hourse) till I read it was a library. Good shot.
Oh what a magnificent pile of books to photograph and i love the way you've photographed it. The best place to spend time and just enjoy.
I like to lost me between the walls of books
So many books.
I forgot about theme day today so I just found some of the books I wrote and took a photo and published that. Too late to be included in the group but it worked for me. LOL
wow! this is the most amazing photo of books i see today! love it
So many books, so little time. Don't know how anyone finds anything there. Nice picture.
I could live here forever.. except I don't read Russian.
What a wonderful mess of books! I love it!
That's such sad news about the Russian Library not having space in the new building. I hope it finds a new home soon.
The stacks of books make for a nice picture, but not for ease of use. I hope a bigger space is found!
WARNING!!! BULLSH*IT ALERT! Every library in Latvia has A LOT of books in Russian, often including those of Soviet period. Of course, books in Russian are not supposed to be in majority in Latvian libraries, because - guess what - Latvia is not Russia. Also content what is going to be stored in the new National Library building is not yet exactly know at this point in time.
So I assume that the person who posted this image with biased comment had an explicit intention of misleading the viewers in a way of concealed political propaganda. I.e. he is lying to you.
Phew, good thing you alerted me about your post.
The original poster used the words "are in plenty", and if you actually were to the Riga central library, you would note that the selection of Russian authors is rather pathetic; they don't even have Bulgakov.
The latvian national library is exactly that, a library compiling all the existing latvian language literature.
So instead of "assuming", try checking your facts before posting.

:D
dude. get a life. Those hairless friends of yours that often randomly scream "Rosija dla ruskih"won't do good.
