District Heating Plant

Riga (and Latvia) has almost the highest percentage of houses supplied by district heating in European Union.
The chimney at the background is district heating plant of Kliversala neighborhood in Pardaugava.
Such plants produce warm water from natural gas. This water is being used not only to take shower, but to warm our houses as well, which is especially important during winters.

Great view!
Hi,
Great blog, have never visited your country although it looks very interesting - and beautiful with all the snow at the moment!
I find this idea of communal heating fascinating. Is there enough hot water to meet everyone's needs? Do you have to pay some sort of local tax for this?
Best wishes, Andy - Wales
Wonderful capture. Cool and warm colors mixed, the smoke rising. It's just great!
