Pērses iela

Pērses iela (Peer/Lord Street) is quite short and narrow street between Kr. Barona and A. Caka streets.
It is infamous among Estonian-speaking people because of funny name interpretation.
Is there any reader who speaks and writes Estonian? Please write your comment :)

Hi!
I'm originally from Estonia and live most of the time in Riga now.
To get the meaning of "Perses iela" over to you, I'd had to start from the word "Perse" wich means ass in estonian. Not ass the donkey, but the ass wich everybody sits on. So the word "Perses" means inside of the ass in estonian (inessive case "to be in or at"). The most correct translation for Perses iela would be f*ucked up street. At least thats how I understand it :)
I'm also Estonian. I know lots of Estonians have taken picture in that street:)
Hi,
just dropped a note to tell that the street name might get some giggles from Finnish tourists as well, 'perse' has the same meaning in Finnish too.
Thanks for the great blog about intriguing city!
