Пушкин
Last week was a monument opening ceremony of the most famous and high-minded Russian author Alexander Pushkin (Александр Сергеевич Пушкин), who was shot in the age of 38 (1799 - 1837)
Pushkin had a fabulous life and was recognized as genius during his life already. He wrote many chefs d'oeuvre, basically he has changed the Russian literature.
It was difficult to take a picture of statue without people nearby, because a lot of people were constantly coming here, to Kronvalda parks to see bronze Pushkin.

You forgot to mention that it's still there illegally ;). Pushkin to Riga has as much relation as E. A. Poe who was a magnificent poet as well, but I doubt there will be a monument of him in Riga.
Pushkin has nothing to do with Riga.
Setting up a monument for him is purely political move by Russian Nationalist politicians in Latvia. To suggest that Latvia somehow is part of the Russian sphere of influence.
Better install a monument to Richard Wagner, who actually lived and worked for a while in Riga. As much as I know there is none.
Just ridiculous!

Some trivia:
1) When Pushkin was young he communicated in French, not Russian. He also wrote his first poetry in French. He referred to Russian language as "rude/coarse".
2) Pushkin's grandfather was black. So today, if Pushkin would risk walking down the streets of Moscow, no surprise that he would be stabbed by one of those apeshit racist skinheads that are swarming the capital of Putin's "resurgent" Russia.
The statues of the Town Musicians of Bremen,Mirzo Ulugbek(who is it by the way),Avicenna also have no relation to Riga. How dare they to erect them in Riga!? Donkey in the heart of the Old City!
