Dammes iela

Dammes iela (formerly Sergeja Ļuļina iela) is one of the main streets in Imanta neighbourhood.
The street was open in Soviet times and initially named after Soviet hero, the aviator Sergey Lulin.

It is a broad avenue and a new neighborhood that will give much life to the city, I think.
From Madrid.
What do you mean with " The street was open " ?
Maybe it is quite wrong to say that the "street was open", but the idea behind it was that Imanta (Imantciems) was looking absolutely different before it was incorporated into Riga as we see it now.
Hence Dammesmuižas iela has nothing in commoon with current street except first part of the name.
Ah ok, I thought you mean the street was wide.. like an broad avenue, no tree's.. very wide.. now I think i understand what you mean.. The big blocks werent there before it was incooperated by Riga. Right?
Turpini labo darbu :)
As far as I remember from pre-war maps of Riga, what's now Imanta was part of Riga already then. The area was rather scarcely populated, but already had some of the streets we now know. For instance, my native Progresa iela :) You may find the name typically Soviet, but it is obviously not.
Soviet boxes are sooo depressing. Whole neighborhood of mind numbing sameness.
