Valkas iela is technically located in Center area next to Washington Square and Triumphal Arch. Most of the people consider this quiet area to be Andrejsala or Petersala. In fact there is nothing special about this street except its name. Valkas street is named after city of Valka or Valga, which is split by two countries Latvia and Estonia.
Club First Dacha or simply First Club is one of the most prestigious nightlife places in Riga. It is located in Andrejsala harbour, which is quite remote area from all other party places in Riga, hence here are no random visitors, if you don't have a yacht, of course :) I couldn't take a good picture during the night, therefore here is the morning after dark.
2,5 years ago Riga Daily Photo was started with the picture of Vana Tallinn ferry departing from Riga Harbour. 500th post was marked with photo of another ferry - Regina Baltica. I didn't want to break the tradition, so the second anniversary was with photo of Festival taking the Sea. Now it's time to expose Rīgas pasažieru osta (Riga Passenger Terminal) itself and the reason is that this picture is the 1000th photo!
Just imagine, 1000 photos of Riga! Riga Daily Photo is my longest hobby ever, which is still making me happy :) Although difficult times came and I don't have a good camera anymore, hence I have to take pictures with a low-end old digital camera. So if you like this blog, please support it by making a small donation for a new camera. Thanks anyway, my beloved visitors and readers :)
Old Grain Silo building located on Andrejasala coast, which is area of old harbour. This silo was commonly used for food products bulk storage in the beginning of 20th century, but nowadays it is ghost building.
Being so busy last week, I missed how people of Latvia entered in the Guinness Book of World Records :) How? Just 1911 volunteers came to Andrejsala and have put Mentos in the bottle of Coca-Cola. Yes, that's it! :) Here is nice video as well.
Do you know who is Mr. Soboleff? Soboleff is a new rising star in Riga. He started to make funny videos in internet just one year ago. After several months he was recruited by draugiem.lv (kinda Latvian myspace) and continued making videos for them. He won some contests and started to work as reporter of Hello, Jūrmala (Latvian version of Star Academy) After just another victory Parex Banka placed a monument to him on Andrejsala. Monument is made of plastic, but it looks impressive :)
Andrejsala (Andrew's Island) is a neighborhood in Riga next to Center and Petersala. Andrejsala always was a harbour and industrial area of Riga. Nowadays here gather a lot of alternative young people. This area is very famous for its graffiti walls :)
