A regular wedding photo session turned into something chaotic when the huge ship appeared on the background.
It was the largest cruise ship ever visited Riga Harbour - Aurora with almost 3000 people on board.
Ventspils is the largest port of Latvia, which is located 185km (115mi) Northwest from Riga.
Many regular ferries are departing from here to different regions of Baltic Sea, e.g to Germany, Russia, Sweden.
This picture of Transeuropa and Watling Street was made on my trip to Nida between P124 road and Pavilosta
The harbour in a small fisherman town Mērsrags, which is located on the coast of Riga's gulf.
This is an experiment work created by stitching many small photos by Hugin software into single panoramic photo.

This photo was made during my coastal ride between Apšuciems and Mersrags
Rīgas centrālais jahtklubs (Central Yacht Club) was founded during Soviet Latvia's times in 1961.

Last weekend Riga officially became 1 year older, and its technical age is 810 years!
A massive celebration was held around the city 3 days in a row. Many subevents, like medieval fights, air show and of course fireworks could be observed in Riga these days.
I would like to continue my tradition and provide here some numbers to describe Riga's "growth".
The city mayor is still Nil Ushakov, but according current tendency, soon there will be no city, but just a settlement.
During the last year Riga population went down from 709,145 to 706,413 residents (-2,732); simple calculation still proves that after a couple of years Riga will have less than 700,000 residents.
Riga region population (including other cities) is 1,098,523. No changes because of new expanded borders.
I really don't understand how, but the picture of Latvia population is getting better. The growth is +27,388 or +1,23% of people (from 2,217,969 to 2,245,357)
Check also stats for 2009 and 2010.

Yachts becoming more and more popular among Rigans. Beside harbours like this one in Agenskalns neighbourhood, there are office buildings with mooring and clubs like First Club.
Both ferries MS Romantika and MS Silja Festival are on regular daily service between Latvia and Sweden. The prices are relatively cheap, so Stockholm becoming a very popular weekend destinations for many Latvians.
EF Dambis (EF Bank) is a made-up name for overgrown strip in Daugava by analogy with AB Dambis. This is the third bank on Daugava river towards the sea. Raft cafe is part of Fabrikas Restorans, the fancy restaurant in Kipsala.
Today is a birthday of riga.in :) 2 years have passed since Riga Daily Photo was started. Wow, we are taking the sea! :) A lot of work has been done - about 750 photos were published, first appearance in press, transfer to new domain. And there are still many ideas and things to do in order to improve riga.in and get this photoblog to even higher level. For example, I will tell you a little secret, in a few days riga.in will have a brand new stylish smart design :)
Of course all of this take tons of resources. In fact riga.in is not created to make any money hence it is nonprofit project, but on this very special day if you want to help to riga.in, then you are very welcome to make a small gift :)
Pleasure boat Misisipi. Obviously the boat name comes from the Mississippi river :) Typical route starts from embankment next to Stone bridge, then Misisipi sails down the Daugava river until it turns around in the Baltic Sea, finally it brings you to Stone Bridge back.
Today is the 500th day since Riga Daily Photo blog had reborn. The 1st photo was during the autumn 2007 with the same ship as this one - Vana Tallinn. I wanted to stop write this blog many times, but something always forces me to continue. On the photo MS Regina Baltica
