Cinema Bar aka Cinamon is a quiet and cheap place in the middle of Old Town on Kaleju iela. This movie-themed bar has the lowest beer price in town, like in French Bar. The beer price is 0,70 Ls (less than 1 EUR) for 0,5 liters, hence they are often run out of it :)
Crystal Club is located on Lacplesa iela, in place of former cinema Kino 52. Since the opening in 2008 it's gaining some popularity among people from high society, mostly Russians. Despite free entrance, all Crystal's visitors look fancy and glamorous.
The main Cinema in Riga is Forum cinemas, which is located on the street of 13th January. Cinema was opened in 2003 as the most advanced cinema in Eastern Europe. 14 movie halls, new technologies, world premiers and perfect location lead to the closure of almost all other Riga cinemas.
Alfa shopping center is the biggest shopping mall in Riga. It was opened in 2001 and extended in 2006. Today Alfa hosts more than 100 shops, cafes, restaurants and even cinema - Cinamon. It is named after famous electronics factory Alfa, which was located just across the street.
Forum Cinemas as known as Parex Plaza and formerly was known as Coca-Coca Plaza is one of two mainstream Riga cinemas, in other words which shows the same movies as everywhere else in the world. The most interesting thing about Latvian cinemas is that movies are usually subtitled in two languages (Latvian and Russian) at the same time. Only animated cartoons for children are being dubbed. Yesterday in Latvia, just one week after the world, was the premier of the new shocking film Brüno. The movie is from producer of Borat and they are quite similar. Bruno is Austrian gay who wants to became world class celebrity and goes to USA. Of course it is forbidden to make any photos in cinema, but I wanted to show subtitles in two languages. Every movie in Latvia is being subtitled in two languages: Latvian and Russian. This movie itself is also in two languages: English and German. Unglaublich!
Daile (Beauty or Art) is the name of the former Riga cinema, which was recently closed. It was opened in 1936. At that time there were about 50 cinemas in Riga. Last years it was famous as budget cinema for more or less old movies and cheap prices.
Kinomuzejs (Museum of Cinema) is the only museum about art of film making in Latvia. It was opened in warehouse on Peitavas iela in 1988. After it was moved several times and had no permanent exposition. in 2006 it had finally settled down at the same place when it was opened very first time. Guest photographer this time is Carolina.
