Victor Enrich

Victor Enrich is the name of modern artist from Barcelona, who is making surreal photos of different cities.
His works made my brain go crazy trying to understand how some of the pictures are composed, because of its misleading simplicity, reverted street angles and buildings.
Other his works can be found in the artist gallery.
BTW, each of the works is being sold in a very limited number of copies, usually just 1 copy.
...and I got my own ;)

1930 Railway Map

1930 Railway Map
Scheme of railway and ferry connections between Riga and other cities around the world in 1930.
The railway network of that time was larger than the modern airway network from Riga.
Just imagine a wonderful adventure from Paris to Riga and then further to Tokyo or Beijing by train :)

Valkas iela is technically located in Center area next to Washington Square and Triumphal Arch.
Most of the people consider this quiet area to be Andrejsala or Petersala. In fact there is nothing special about this street except its name.

Just few Rigans know that word Riga stands not only for the capital of Latvia, but it is also name for some cities, towns and other places around the world.
Today it is exactly 201 year since Riga town was formed in the state of New York in United States of America. Nowadays Riga, NY is a small town with population of 6,000 people.
I hope one day I will take a plane to New York and take these pictures by myself, but for now I am sending big thanks for photos to Art and Jim from Riga, NY

Minsk

Minsk
Minska (Minsk) is a shopping mall in Purvciems built in 1980s. Along with Mebelu Nams it was the most notable place in this area during Soviet and early post soviet time.
In Soviet Union it was popular to name shopping centers after Soviet and other Eastern bloc cities.
e.g. In Moscow is popular shop called Budapest, in Minsk is Frunze and so on..
Do you know any others combinations? :)

Pizza Malibu

Malibu Pizza
Malibu is one of the oldest places in Old Town, which is still open under its original initial name.
I remember, about 7-8 years ago Malibu had reputation of a nice place and I was proud of my friend who used to work as a cook there.
Nowadays it is a dive focusing on unconcerned tourists walking around on Kalku iela.
Stinking room, uncomfortable chairs, overpriced menu, dirty dishes, bad design, worse food.
I guess some local people go there, just because Malibu is one of the few places where it is allowed to smoke.

Where to escape

City directions sign
This sign post, located at Perses iela, shows distances between Riga and world cities.
Moscow (Maskava) 841 kilometers
Brussels (Brisele) 1455 km
London (Londona) 1674 km (1040 miles)
New York (Ņujorka) 6751 km (4195 miles)

Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) is much closer, just 10 meters, but lately more and more people leave the country for developing and investing in somewhere else.
Such ideas are visiting me quite often as well. What about you, my friends?
