1st of May is International Day of Labor, therefore I would like to focus on some of the Latvian TOP 50 companies. Latvijas Finieris (Latvian Plywood) provides job for more than 1500 workers, which is big number for Riga.
The factory was founded in 1873 as Latvijas Bērzs. It was producing wood materials for schools and households.
The building at 47 Brivibas st. is a remarkable example of Romantic Nationalism architecture style in Riga. It also could be named a German version of Art Nouveau or even simpler Jugendstil. It was built in 1909 and belonged to A. Krustkalns, who was the first Riga mayor of Latvian origin since 1917. Nowadays, many shops and companies have their headquarters in this building, one of them is Baltic Expert, a real estate company.

Accenture is an global consulting company, which is located in so called Latvian Silicon Valley, the former VEF. Accenture has more than 300 employee, which makes it the largest IT Company in Riga.
Nowadays, the territory of the former electronics factory VEF is a home for many IT companies in Riga. Accenture, Nano Hosting, Idea Port Riga, Datartis, Interneta Pasaule and many other companies offices are located in these buildings. Therefore we can call this area as a Silicon Yard, as analogy to Silicon Valley in California :)
Kronbergs & Čukste is our own copyrighted Latvian Ernst & Young (Don't confuse with Ernsts un Jangs :)) By the law auditors and lawyers must be separated, so if Ernst & Young is taking financial consulting, then Kronbergs & Cukste is involved into legal counseling.
Rīgas Maratons (Riga Marathon) gathered 8 thousands of people this morning. Of course most of them registered for Mini Marathon, which is 5km. There were also 1km for disabled people, 20km as Half marathon. The marathon itself is 42.195km long This year marathon course starts at 11. Novembra krastmala and finishes at Arena Riga passing old town, cable bridge and other interesting Riga landmarks.
Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu or simply Deloitte is one of the big four Auditors. It is a good sign for relatively small city Riga, when such companies has their representatives here. Also Chevrolet centre can be seen on right side. Chevrolet is taking 28th place by popularity among car makes in Riga.
Last week Riga Stock Exchange has been renamed to NASDAQ OMX Riga, therefore became more reliable part of NASDAQ. Warm advertisement welcomed Riga all day long at Times Square in my favorite city New York. Author of this picture is unknown.
