Le Paon Bleu (Indian Peafowl) is the name of recently opened bohemian French restaurant in Old Town. I don't know what new restaurant owners have in mind, but the closed down restaurant Hospitalis, which was located here, went bankruptcy several months ago. Despite being very well promoted Hospitalis couldn't compete with cheaper restaurants and cafes in Old Town. Have you ever tried frogs legs? How does it taste like? :)
La Belle Epoque (more famous as French Bar) is the friendliest and the cheapest place in Riga, which is overcrowded every day except Sunday. Why? Just because it is closed on Sundays! 99% of visitors are foreigners, students and foreign students. French Bar is the best place to practice any language. Multi-cultural, free and easy atmosphere makes this place really unique for Riga. French Bar is located on Maza Monetu iela in Old town.
Franču projekts in Latvian or французский проект in Russian (literally French Project in English) is a nickname for a couple of 18-floor buildings, which were built in the middle of 1980s in Purvciems area on Madonas street. Basically there is nothing French except formwork, which was ordered in France. Relatively new construction method of making monolith structure by pouring concrete into moulds gave such name to these apartment buildings.
Mazā Monētu iela (Little Coin street) is one of the most famous streets among students in Riga. Two the most cheapest places are located here - La Belle Epoque (aka French Bar) and recently opened Celsijs. Ultra low prices in both places make the street wet from the spilled beer (literally :)). During rush hours (the middle of the night) it is impossible to get through the street. Hundreds of students, alternative people, bums and foreigners gather here. It is unique place because it is not forbidden to travel with the same glass of beer from one place to another one.
This sign post, located at Perses iela, shows distances between Riga and world cities. Moscow (Maskava) 841 kilometers Brussels (Brisele) 1455 km London (Londona) 1674 km (1040 miles) New York (Ņujorka) 6751 km (4195 miles)
Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) is much closer, just 10 meters, but lately more and more people leave the country for developing and investing in somewhere else. Such ideas are visiting me quite often as well. What about you, my friends?
Ambassade de France (Embassy of France) resides in one of the most beautiful buildings in Riga. This house is a perfect architectural example of Art Nouveau or Jugendstil how it is called more often in Riga. Actually in the beginning of the last century it was the residence of British Embassy. Next nearest building is American Embassy, which could play a role of negative for French Embassy.
Grey weather - Grey House. This house is a good example of Riga Art Nouveau Architecture style. Building address is Kalku iela 15, in Old Town, just next to McDonalds.
