Regular Graffiti - Monthly Theme

Another Monthly Theme came and this time the topic is Graffiti. Again.
I couldn't find quickly any really good graffiti in Riga, so I decide to put the bad one :)
This type of graffiti is quite regular for Riga blocks, tunnels and industrial areas. This electric box is located inside of the former Phoenix factory territory.
Check previous Graffiti Theme Photo or click here to view thumbnails for all participants.

Dobroe Utro Katja

Dobroe Utro Katja
Dobroe Utro Katja (Good Morning Katja) is a very old graffiti in Maskachka neighborhood.
It is written in Russian using Latin letters. Such way of writing Cyrillic letters is sometimes called Crazy Russian.
Interesting is that in every country Cyrillic letters are mapped to different Latin letters or numbers, for example letter Ш could be written as sch, sh, s, 6 or w

Ты не одна

Ty ne odna
Ты не одна (You are not alone) was recently written on the roof of almost collapsed building in Kliversala area.
I guess this phrase is continue of AB Dambis writings, which are just few hundreds meters from this building.
The same color, font, style and the way to express feelings of love. I want to love somebody like he does.

Wooden Triangle

wooden house like triangle
This architecture master piece is located on Bruninieku street in Lower Center.
Sharp roof angle could be very useful during winter. Heavy snow doesn't break the roof because it is just slip down.

I love you

I love you Riga
Most probably these lovely romantic writings on AB Dambis are devoted to some person living at Kugu iela 26.
In the beginning there was only You are my #1, then I can't live without you appeared, and only then banal I love you was written.
These lyrics are being updated approximately each 4-6 months.
What do you think, who is more able to do such things: a man or a woman? :)

Updated: see the next writing - You are not alone.

Zelta Zivtiņas tunelis

Zelta Zivtiņas tunelis is a pedestrian tunnel under 13. Janvara street.
Named after Zelta Zivtina (Gold Fish) mobile prepayment card, owned by TELE2.
A good mural design made this tunnel more lively and colorful, especialliy during grey autumn.

Makslinieki Sawienojieties

I think that the last days are numbered, when I can put the picture of this guy without telling who is him.
Makslinieki Sawienojieties means Artists unite in Latvian.
For the past months I couldn't figure out the story behind this writing and George Walker Bush portrait.

Riga Graffiti - Monthly theme

Latvian Graffiti
Everyday in Riga I see many tags of urban heroes shadowing them and remembered, why we write our names upon the walls, so if we grow, when we go, you'll see a piece of us.
Especially Andrejsala area in Riga became famous for its alternative look due a lot of colourful graffities.

This photo is for Monthly Theme Day, which is "Graffiti or street mural"

Hanza Tunnel

This is composition of graffiti from Hanza tunnel, which is located under Kipsala island, next to Hansa Building :)
In the beginning it was very nice place, decorated with graffities.
But then after come some vandals.
Actually they was other graffiti artist, but who wasn't invited to decorate this tunnel (for reward of course). So they was upset and started to damage graffities with some stupid slogans like:
  • Graffiti isn't art for money
  • Unnatural graffiti culture
  • ..and so on..
They are just jealous.

See also Gold Fish Tunnel.

Rising Urban Star

After my competitor's post named Faro, I began to notice in Riga FARO or FA 200 unique graffities throughout the small Riga.
Respect! :)
