There is no ski jumping sport in Latvia, at least because there is no any built ski flying hill.
Although in the mid of 1970 there was a project to built a Ski Jumping Hill in Valmiera, but it has never finished.
Lutera evaņģēliski luteriskā baznīca (Evangelic Lutheran Church of Martin Luther) was built in 1891. It is located on the hill in Tornakalns (literally Tower Hill) area, not very from the station. The community of Tornakalns Lutheran church is the biggest Lutheran community in Latvia and numbers nearly 4000 members.
Flat surface is one of Riga's hidden features. Riga is flat as a pancake and it is extremely useful for bicyclists. Arkādijas parks (Park of Arcadia) is located in Pardagauva between Monument of Victory and Tornakalns station. Small river Marupite purling and twisting among stone hills, lake and a couple of waterfalls make Arcadia one of the most beautiful spots in Riga.
Sometimes in Riga, there is little or no good sledding during the winter, but not this year! Today is again giant snowfall, as many times during last several months.
Last days snowfall brought a lot of joy to children and their parents :) Kukushka (Dzeguzkalns) is the most famous tobogganing hill in Riga as it is the highest natural point above sea level.
Bastejkalns park was renovated during last winter. So, here is the nice result of Invisible workers - artificial tiny brook coming from top of the hill, bordered by granite stones.
Bastejkalns (Bastion Hill) is an artificial hill in the center of Riga next to Riga Canal. Built up as defensive stand on the northeast of Old Riga, nowadays it is park, where a lot of people walk everyday. In the beginning of 20 century it was so popular and beautiful place to walk, that doctors recommended for social elite "go for a walk to Bastion Hill for de-stress" :) See also Bastion Hill in Winter.
Landscape on Bastejkalns (Bastion Hill) is changing. It is easier to design parks during the winter, because much less people walking there in cold days. Try to find 3 workers in this photo, but be careful, they are wearing camouflage! :)
