This is not April Fools' Day Joke, but a screenshot from Indian movie called Agent Vinod, which was released last year.
Few parts of the movie were filmed in Riga in the 2011 summer and it is worth to see just because of that.
Hot pursuits through Riga streets, epic explosion of Riga Hotel and many other scenes involving Riga sights.
The third extraordinary building design from Any Mann. (Viesnīca in Latvian means Hotel)
The Shark Hotel in the middle of Daugava River between Stone and Cable bridges.
How much would you pay for staying in Riga Hotel with such design?
فندق ريغا (Hotel Riga) is the name of the hotel in the oldest city of the world - Aleppo, Syria. I wish it would be 5* :) And does anybody know what letter L means? @Valeria, thank you for an interesting photo of Riga signs outside Latvia :)
Agroapgāde (Agro supplies) is a company which provides agricultural resources, materials and maintenance. The building itself was built during latest years of Soviet epoch and is a good example of Soviet architecture. By the way, this complex building, located at 451 Maskavas street, is also one of the cheapest hotels within Riga borders. The price for staying varies between 2 EUR and 10 EUR per night.
Hotel Bergi is closed down since 2008, but it looks like it is still open. From a distance of course. At some point Berģi was a popular destination for couples with a passionate desires. Despite its cheapness and remoteness here was a good restaurant with panoramic view. It is located just next to Sigulda Highway, hence it could easily take the title of the first Riga Motel.
Tobago Casino is located in the basement of Hotel Riga, but it is closed since 2008 already. The reason why I write about this forgotten place is its name Tobago, an island in Caribbeans. Not many people know that predecessor of Latvia, The Duchy of Courland, was the owner of this colonial island in 17th century and settled it. In other words, Latvia was one of the first colonizers of Americas.
Riga Fashion Week is a seasonal fashion show of the leading Baltic and international designers. Concentration of alternative and other bohemian people usually is being held in Hotel Latvia.
Elefant Hotel is located on the way to Riga Airport, on Lielirbes iela. It is located next to Panorama Plaza buildings and promoted in the same way as the middle point between the Riga International Airport and Old Town. It was opened in 2007, but still looks quite empty. Can anybody give a short review on it? :)
Avalon Hotel on 13 Janvara street was opened just few years ago in place where only ruins used to be. Have you stayed in Avalon? Please write some review ;)
Radisson BLU (formerly Radisson SAS) is one of the most prestigious hotel chains represented in Riga. Radisson Hotel is located on riverside with fantastic view towards old town and city center.
It is quite possible that people who hoist flags might don't have any education and therefore there is no wonder that German flag was set in a wrong upside-down way. But how the management of 4 star hotelGarden Palace can miss such a mistake?
Skyline is a prestigious Riga bar on 26th floor of Hotel Latvia. Despite being located on Riga top, Skyline's prices are quite affordable even for students like I am :) It is a good place to bring foreign guests in order to show the whole Riga city at once. Check the panoramic view from Skyline.
Riga Old Town Hostel is one of the best hostels in Riga. This is opinion of many travelers visiting Riga and known to me. For a long time Riga Couchsurfing base point was in Backpackers Pub, which is located inside of Old Town Hostel.
Studio 69 is not only a night club, but a whole entertainment complex, which includes, different bars, restaurants, casino, hotel. And on top of that Studio is connected to Rai with its 3 dance floors and hundreds of regular visitors. Studio 69 has reputation of relatively expensive place for middle and upper-income workers. In fact here are a lot of people just pretending to be rich and the atmosphere of the club is very simulated. Pros:
Good music
A lot of nice looking girls
Sushi Bar
Shisha Bar (aka Hookah or water-pipe)
Cons:
A lot of rich people poor in spirit
Cheap young girls looking for a sponsor (for somebody it could be more pro rather than con :))
Marijas iela (Maria street) formerly Pleskavas iela (Pskov Street) is one of the main streets in Riga. Marijas iela starts at Central station, runs several blocks and then turns into Caka iela. It is not an unique case in Riga, when the same street has two names, one at the beginning and another one at the end. At the foreground a pink Art Nouveau building is newly opened Nordic Hotel Bellevue.
Our city is going to have one hotel more. Unlike many others in Riga, this hotel is going to be quite competitive because of good location. The building is just next to Central Station and Minibus station. Hotel is being built very fast, less than 1 year ago here was just a lonely wall.
Formerly this building was a gorgeous hotel in Jurmala. After the big fire in late 90s, hotel has been left untouched. Nice rooms with view towards Baltic Sea, beautiful outskirts, just 50 meters to the sea.
By the way, do not forget to send greetings to your mother. Today is the Mother's Day in Latvia :)
