The building at 47 Brivibas st. is a remarkable example of Romantic Nationalism architecture style in Riga. It also could be named a German version of Art Nouveau or even simpler Jugendstil. It was built in 1909 and belonged to A. Krustkalns, who was the first Riga mayor of Latvian origin since 1917. Nowadays, many shops and companies have their headquarters in this building, one of them is Baltic Expert, a real estate company.

Le Paon Bleu (Indian Peafowl) is the name of recently opened bohemian French restaurant in Old Town. I don't know what new restaurant owners have in mind, but the closed down restaurant Hospitalis, which was located here, went bankruptcy several months ago. Despite being very well promoted Hospitalis couldn't compete with cheaper restaurants and cafes in Old Town. Have you ever tried frogs legs? How does it taste like? :)
The building of Riga School #40 was built in 1905 in Art Nouveau architecture style as apartment building The school's history started in 1946 when it was opened under number 79. Alberta iela (Albert street) is one of the most famous streets and sights in Riga because of Art Nouveau style buildings. At the foreground a pink Art Nouveau building is newly opened Nordic Hotel Bellevue.
The name of this gentleman with the spouse is George Armistead, the most notable mayor of Riga through its all history. During his rule 1901-1912 Riga has been changing a lot. Ambassade de France (Embassy of France) resides in one of the most beautiful buildings in Riga. This house is a perfect architectural example of Art Nouveau or Jugendstil how it is called more often in Riga. Actually in the beginning of the last century it was the residence of British Embassy. Next nearest building is American Embassy, which could play a role of negative for French Embassy.
This building is more than just a good example of Art Nouveau architecture in Riga, but also it is a German School. Actually it is my school. By word "my" I mean that I spent several years in this building to get some knowledge about the life, and German language of course :) The school named after famous German philosopher Johann Gottfried Herder, who used to work in Riga as teacher. One more interesting fact that this is the only school located on Skolas iela, which means School street in Latvian language. See also English school in Riga.
This building stands like this for at least 10 years. A great design and location, but nobody is reparing it. It could be a prestigious apartments. It is just next to Swedbank Building.
