Riga is changing as every living creature does and so do I. After many months of wandering around the world I am coming back to Riga.
Brand new photos taken with brand new camera and new untold short stories about Riga are on its way.
On the picture is the same railroad from to Jurmala to Riga, but this photo is taken 5 years later.
Havana Club Lounge is the name of the first successful private beach in Latvia, located in Dzintari, Jurmala.
Single time entry costs 20 LVL (which is around 30 EUR), prices for drinks and other extras are above average, which makes this place affordable for elite people only.
Although this is the only good place in the whole Jurmala, where you can have a glass of wine watching at sunset.
An abandoned cafe just few meters from beach of Baltic Sea can be found in Jaunķemeri.
This is the second photostop in my coast trip to Nida. Previous was Priedaine. Next is Ragaciems.
Railway station is one of the few points worth to see in Priedaine (another one is White Dune)
Priedaine is located on right coast of Lielupe river and it is the most closest Jurmala's neighborhood from Riga.
This photo is the beginning of my road story to Lithuania via coastline. Next stop is cafe in Jaunkemeri
A new house is being assembled in Varnukrogs area, just few meters from Lielupe river.
I am not sure whether it will be German Fachwerkhaus or something else.
Does anybody know the price of such build? I am planning to buy one :)
Few days after December 13, 1985 I was brought to this house.
Here, on Jauna iela in Jurmala, I have spent first 2 years of my life before my family moved to Riga Center.
Lielupe Beach is the most east beach in Jurmala, basically it is where the resort town starts. It is quite remote from Jurmala central part, and hence quite empty.
Свято-Владимирский храм в Дубулты or Pareizticīgo Sv. kņaza Vladimira Dubultu baznīca is the first Orthodox Church in Jurmala located in Dubulti and named after Vladimir I of Kiev, the Grand Prince of Rus. The church was built in 1867 and hence it is the oldest Orthodox Church in Jurmala.
Dubulti Stacija (Dubulti Station) is one of the stops on the Riga - Sloka railway, originally opened in 1877. The current building was built by Soviet architects in 1977. The station shape reminds a high wave.
Dubultu evaņģēliski luteriskā baznīca (Dubulti Evangelic Lutheran Church) was built in 1909 in the place of old wooden prayer house, which was here, at Baznicas iela, since 1851. 26 meters (85 ft) tall tower with clock is one of the most notable sights in Jurmala town. Happy Easter.
Dzintaru koncertzāle (Dzintari concert hall) is the most important arena in Jurmala town. The wooden building was built in 1936, the hall was rebuilt in 1960 without walls and the space merges with the surrounding Jurmala dune park. It is stamping ground of Russian entertainment stars.
Click this picture to zoom in and admire this fantastic advertisement of Salli clothing shop at Jomas iela, Jurmala. I didn't visit this clothing store, but, I guess, this is the first gay clothing shop in Latvia.
Formerly this building was a gorgeous hotel in Jurmala. After the big fire in late 90s, hotel has been left untouched. Nice rooms with view towards Baltic Sea, beautiful outskirts, just 50 meters to the sea.
By the way, do not forget to send greetings to your mother. Today is the Mother's Day in Latvia :)
This weekend in Latvia is especially long. Due official holidays Day of Labour on Friday and Independence Restoration Day on Monday, this weekend became 4 days-long. Many people spend first sunny days in the open, for example on the Jurmala's beach, making barbeque, drinking beer or just walking :)
