Hepatitis

Hepatitis
Traveling around the world I have noticed that advertisement in Latvia is always at much higher level than in any other country. For example, Latvian marketers can easily shake the whole world with fake Meteorite :)
Social and health problems are also often being solved with creative ads. Now it is time to fight Hepatitis or hepatits. The writing at bicycle says "Don't eat everything you meet"
Have you seen that old yellow bikes? There are plenty of them in town.

Stradiņi

Stradini
Stradiņa slimnīca (Stradins' Hospital) was named in honor of Pauls Stradins.
Despite quite old interior, this hospital has the best reputation among Latvian medicine facilities. It is prestigious place (if it is possible to say like that) to stay while you have health problems.

See also First Riga Hospital, which is going to be closed soon because of financial crisis in Latvia.

Abacus

Counting frame photo
Abacus aka counting frame is being used in some places of the world, for example in Latvia.
Quite late introducing of electronic calculator to Latvia is only part of the reason.
Also Abacus is very stable and could be easy used by people with weak eyesight.
This one I found in Agenskalns pharmacy.

Corridor

Corridor in one of the Riga hospitals
This is a quite typical view for state-owned institutions in Latvia. An evolution of interior can be seen with naked eye.
In the beginning it was created building and chairs; and then heating and electricity was added; and then oblique ventilation tube struggled through the wall.
And finally a big computer hub was attached to the wall :)

Pauls Stradiņš

Pauls Stradins statue
A granite monument in the garden in Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital, which is located in Agenskalns area.
It is a bust of Pauls Stradiņš (1896 - 1958), the most famous Latvian doctor, surgeon and oncologist.
He had founded Medicine University, was head of Major Hospital in Latvia and many other medicine institutions.
The importance of his works and contribution to the science can scarcely be overestimated.

Krogs Aptieka

Krogs Aptieka
Krogs Aptieka (Pharmacy Bar) is a funny name for a bar located on Maza Miesnieku street in Riga Old Town.
Interior design (scattered pills, medical equipment on shelves) makes you feel that you are in real pharmacy shop.
Regular visitors are mostly alternative people. It is said that some of them are living in Aptieka :)
