Russian Secondary School #24 was opened in 1987 on Caka iela, just next to Riga monastery. Unfrotunately I couldn't find anything special or interesting about this school, except basic data like... Official name is Рижская основная школа №24 in Russian or Rīgas 24. pamatskola in Latvian.
Rīgas Valsts 2. ģimnāzija (State Gymnasium No. 2 of Riga) is located on Krisjana Valdemara iela. The school resides in this eclectic building since it was built in 1879. School's alumni are many famous Latvians including first president of Latvia Janis Cakste.
Rīgas Valsts 1. ģimnāzija (State Gymnasium No. 1 of Riga) is the oldest school in Latvia and one of the oldest schools in the world, which is still operating. First record of existence is dated by 1211. During times the school was famous under many names, teaching in several languages and located in different places. Originally it was located next to Riga Dome and moved to current building in 1874. Nowadays it is the most prestigious educational institution among Latvian and Russian schools in Riga. Yesterday, on September 1, was the official opening of academic year aka The Knowledge Day and today is the first lessons day of new academic year.
The building of Riga School #40 was built in 1905 in Art Nouveau architecture style as apartment building The school's history started in 1946 when it was opened under number 79. After 6 years, in 1952 it was renamed to Riga 40th School (see former 40th School). Rīgas 40. vidusskola is famous for its good education. A lot of rich children are being educated here, e.g. the son of the former Latvian Prime Minister Godmanis is studying here as well.
Riga School 13 was opened in 1951. It was the first school opened after Second World War. Nowadays it is school for over than 500 Russian-speaking Latvians.
Пушкинский лицей or Puškina licejs is a secondary school named after Alexander Pushkin. During Soviet times it was regular school Nr 79, which was operating since 1976. In 1989 the school got a new and untypical name Lyceum and soon became one of the elite Riga schools. This school follows Russians education traditions and pupils study 6 days per week from Monday to Saturday.
Rīgas Valsts tehnikums (Riga technical school) is on of the first educational institution in the world, where it was possible to study in Latvian language. RVT was opened in late 1919, just after Latvian University was formed. During Soviet times the name of this school was Rīgas Industriālais politehnikums or just RIP :) RVT is located on Krisjana Valdemara iela, next to Old Town.
Skolas iela (School street) in Riga center. Interesting fact is that before street renaming reform there were about a dozen Skolas streets in Riga :) In fact there is only one school located on this street - Deutsche Schule.
This building is more than just a good example of Art Nouveau architecture in Riga, but also it is a German School. Actually it is my school. By word "my" I mean that I spent several years in this building to get some knowledge about the life, and German language of course :) The school named after famous German philosopher Johann Gottfried Herder, who used to work in Riga as teacher. Knowledge Day (more often called as simply as 1st of September) is a country wide holiday marking the end of Summer school holidays and the beginning of new Academic Year, which is 9 months long in Latvia.
Rīgas 34. vidusskola (School number 34) is located next to Botanical gardens in Ilguciems area. It was opened in 1946 as School #40 and in 1952 was renamed to #34. Nowadays 34th school is recognized in Riga as English School. The name English School means that this school gives an extra education in English language. There is also German School in Riga.
