Staro in Latvian means Shine. Staro Riga is the name of annual light festival which was held 18-22 November. This photo of Alexander Bridge was taken by Delfi's photographer.
Staro Rīga (Riga shines) is a city wide light festival in Riga started today, on 14th November. More than fifty objects are shining and making Riga lighter during these long and dark evenings. I am going to publish more photos next days of this splendid event, but for now you are welcomed to check previous festival's photos of Strūklaka, Bibliotēka, Vecrīga, Akmens tilts, Radisson, Cable Bridge.
Līvu square in winter period. It is one of the few squares in Riga Old Town area. On the right hand we can see Guild Houses, and on the left we can see the outdated poster of Staro Rīga event.
During Staro Riga event, the most famous fountain in Riga (Operas Struklaka) was designed as giant snow globe. Staro strūklaka means fountain glows in Latvian.
Akmens tilts (Stone Bridge) during Staro Riga event. Each bridge lamp was decorated with firework lights. The colors are truly Latvian red-white-red. See another photo of Stone Bridge in Summer 2009.
Hotel Radisson SAS Daugava during Staro Riga days. The hotel looks like a wrapped gift, and the flag of Latvia is used as wrapping ribbon :) Or it is just showing direction where to look. Because on the right hand of Radisson is nicely decorated Vansu Tilts. Updated: Hotel was renamed to Radisson Blu in Summer 2009.
Today in Riga started a big event - Staro Rīga (Riga is shining) I will try to cover all shining objects in Riga during next few days. This is Vansu tilts over Daugava river. Swedbank skyscraper is on the left.
