The beginning of the new year regularly is being celebrated by choosing the Best Photo of the year! As always, it is nearly impossible to pick up the one among all other Riga photos, especially for me :) therefore, I kindly asked for help from my dear visitors to pick up their best photo. Here below are top 4 photos according visitors choice: Holy Trinity Lutheran Church - fairy tale glade with church in early September Brivibas Bulvaris - photo of the high street taken from the hotel in the sunny July morning Towards Petersburg - October's perspective view of highway towards Russian North capital Meistaru iela - photo of cartoon-like little houses in Old Town, which was published in December
Two perfectly straight lines going down beyond the horizon are Brivibas gatve aka road to Saint Petersburg and the railway of the same direction. Photo has been taken during Air Tour with Jonathan and James.
Rīgas Sv. Trīsvienības evaņģēliski luteriskā baznīca (Riga Holy Trinity Evangelic Lutheran Church) is located in Sarkandaugava borough on the hill and surrounded by territories of the former cemetery. It was built in 1878 as separate church for Lutherans living in Sarkandaugava, because before all three major confessions in Riga (Lutheran, Orthodox and Catholic) were meeting in a small wooden church, which was unacceptable for the most of the people living at that time.
Regular theme of City Daily Photo Blogs - The Best Photo of the previous year 2009! Believe me, I've been trying to pick one, but I couldn't choose the best one :( Therefore I would like to thank all of regular readers who expressed their opinion in comments and advised me to choose the best photos. If you still have own idea, please feel free to comment and say which photo is better than others. It is always interesting to see what people like and why. Sometimes it is real discovery for me.
Following 4 photos are considered to be the best of 2009. From upper left: Gap - published in October Улица Кирова aka Kirov street - published in November Feet - published in June Protesters - published in December
Despite such a freezing weather (-17°C or 2°F) since several weeks these people are living in tents in order to protest against current government's actions or more precisely inactions. The camp of more than 10 tents is based right in front of Council of Ministers. In the very beginning it was just one small tent, but the community of desperate people is growing very fast. They don't care about us...
This year's first snow was on 17th October, unfortunately I couldn't make any good picture that day. Low clouds turned Riga into gray today. During such weather Riga looks so pessimistic, I could say even Soviet :) Улица Кирова (Kirov street, nowadays Elizabetes street) together with blurred Academy of Science at the background tone up this feeling.
Today is the monthly theme day, which is feet. I didn't think to long what to make a picture of. Riga is very famous for its beautiful girls and this is the main reason why many people come to Riga :) Legs, feet and some other body parts of Riga girls eclipse even St. Peter's Church.
