Riga is getting prepared to New Year parties around the town. The mass celebration will be held in Old Town. By the way, Riga Ferris wheel will work tonight all night long! I wish you all the positive and successful New Year 2011!
Oliveoil is the name of Italian restaurant located in Old town on Jana iela. There are so many Italians and Italian places in Riga, so it could be possible that Italian could be the 3rd most popular native language of people living in Riga after Latvian and Russian of course. BTW, Halloween is coming this weekend :)
Baudiet Nesteidzoties (Enjoy sipping) is the name of another Apsara Tea House, located in old town. Tea drinking is extremely popular in Riga, but the drinkers' preference is changing constantly. Nowadays the person who drinks black tea with white sugar (as everybody did several years before) is a rarity.
Klostera iela (Monastery street) is 180 meters long street in Old Town, lying next to Latvian Parliament. During the last century this street had different names like Muzeju iela and Vestures iela. Klostera street is also address of Magdalene's Church
Salsa became an ultra-popular leisure activity worldwide and particularly in Latvia. Tens of clubs and study groups offer relatively cheap and qualitative salsa classes in Riga. I guess nearly everyone in Riga dances or had danced Salsa, Mambo, Bachata or Reggaeton. Do you dance? :)
Slokas iela is the most twisted street in Riga. Slokas is also one of the longest streets in city (10km).
It starts next to Stone Bridge runs across whole Pardaugava, Agenskalns, Ilguciems, Imanta, runs out of town and finishes next to Babite Railway station, where you can take train to Sloka town.
