Oliveoil is the name of Italian restaurant located in Old town on Jana iela. There are so many Italians and Italian places in Riga, so it could be possible that Italian could be the 3rd most popular native language of people living in Riga after Latvian and Russian of course. BTW, Halloween is coming this weekend :)
Not many people know that Alberta iela is not the only place with a lot of Art Nouveau buildings. Renovated house Ausekļa iela 4 is a good example of the same architecture style.
Baudiet Nesteidzoties (Enjoy sipping) is the name of another Apsara Tea House, located in old town. Tea drinking is extremely popular in Riga, but the drinkers' preference is changing constantly. Nowadays the person who drinks black tea with white sugar (as everybody did several years before) is a rarity.
Klostera iela (Monastery street) is 180 meters long street in Old Town, lying next to Latvian Parliament. During the last century this street had different names like Muzeju iela and Vestures iela. Klostera street is also address of Magdalene's Church
Salsa became an ultra-popular leisure activity worldwide and particularly in Latvia. Tens of clubs and study groups offer relatively cheap and qualitative salsa classes in Riga. I guess nearly everyone in Riga dances or had danced Salsa, Mambo, Bachata or Reggaeton. Do you dance? :)
Slokas iela is the most twisted street in Riga. Slokas is also one of the longest streets in city (10km).
It starts next to Stone Bridge runs across whole Pardaugava, Agenskalns, Ilguciems, Imanta, runs out of town and finishes next to Babite Railway station, where you can take train to Sloka town.
This metal doors of the former NKVD building (later KGB) is untypical monument, which will always remind to people how many victims were tortured and killed because of wrong political views during the early Soviet times aka Stalin's era.
