A new house is being assembled in Varnukrogs area, just few meters from Lielupe river.
I am not sure whether it will be German Fachwerkhaus or something else.
Does anybody know the price of such build? I am planning to buy one :)
Bolderājas Evaņģēliski luteriskā baznīca (Bolderaja Lutheran Church) was built in 1875 and burnt in 1973.
Wooden building was rebuilt in 1995 as the only Lutheran church in Northwestern Riga.
1st of May is International Day of Labor, therefore I would like to focus on some of the Latvian TOP 50 companies. Latvijas Finieris (Latvian Plywood) provides job for more than 1500 workers, which is big number for Riga.
The factory was founded in 1873 as Latvijas Bērzs. It was producing wood materials for schools and households.
Today is Easter Sunday for Orthodox Christians. Christ is Risen!
There is an interesting phenomenon in Latvia, despite that religion is becoming weaker worldwide, religion in Latvia is getting more popular, stronger and affecting people's everyday life more than before.
On the picture: a continued bulding of new Orthodox Church in Daugavgriva. Two cupolas are still on the ground.
Few days after December 13, 1985 I was brought to this house.
Here, on Jauna iela in Jurmala, I have spent first 2 years of my life before my family moved to Riga Center.
I suppose here is no need for translation or explanation what kind of service you can get by visiting this shop.
A stylish yellow boot, hanging next to this wooden building on Tallinas iela, speaks for itself :)
Shoemaker is quite rare profession in developed world, although in Latvia it is still quite common to bring your old shoes to cobbler in order to repair.
Жигули (Zhiguli) is one of the most popular Soviet cars ever, but nowadays it is very rare car in Latvia. I took this picture next to one of the many wooden buildings on Kalnciema iela.
Храм Преображения Господня or Kristus apskaidrošanas pareizticīgo baznīca (Orthodox Church of Transfiguration) is located on the border between Sarkandaugava and Mezaparks neighbourhoods.
Church of Transfiguration was built in 1890 in the place of former multi-religious church for Catholics (moved to King's Church in 1942), Lutherans (moved to Trinity church) and Orthodox (stayed here).
This fairy tale picture was taken today in Šmerļa forest, which is between Teika and Jugla neighborhoods. Recent and frequent snow storms brought to Riga unseen amount of snow for many years. This photo is made for City Daily Monthly Theme, which is Wood. Click here to view thumbnails for all participants
Biķernieku mežs (Bikernieku woods) consists mostly of famous Baltic Pine. This oasis of nature is located within city borders, in Mezciems neighborhood to be more precisely.
The wooden building, located on Skolas iela 3, was built in 1905 using German Romanticism and Jugendstil styles. The German writing on top Arbeit ist des Burgers Zierde (The work is citizen's adornment) is one of still living evidences that at some time Riga was German city. Jēzus Evaņģēliski luteriskā baznīca (Evangelic Lutheran Church of Jesus) is a wooden church built in 1822 on Elijas iela. The black wooden building on left has its own photo as well.
This architecture master piece is located on Bruninieku street in Lower Center. Sharp roof angle could be very useful during winter. Heavy snow doesn't break the roof because it is just slip down.
I didn't know before that Riga Pine is famous even outside of Europe. I knew that Latvian Pine tree was always exported for ship masts, but couldn't imagine that to Latin America too. Thanks to Antonio from Brazil, who commented my blog and exposured me this fact.
Dzintaru koncertzāle (Dzintari concert hall) is the most important arena in Jurmala town. The wooden building was built in 1936, the hall was rebuilt in 1960 without walls and the space merges with the surrounding Jurmala dune park. It is stamping ground of Russian entertainment stars.
