Temporary Riga photos are being published not in a regular manner due to blog author has moved to Vilnius.

Main office of Danish
Danske Bank, previously known as
Sampo Bank (which used to be Finnish one).
Danske Banka is one of 25 banks. Interesting fact that there is a ratio of 1 bank per 40,000 residents if Latvia.
It gets even strange if we do compare to neighboring Lithuania, which has 1 bank per 500,000 residents (7 banks in total)

Hesburger is a Finnish fast food restaurant chain, similar to American
McDonalds.
In fact Hesburger has more restaurants in Latvia than McDonald's, hence it could be considered number one.

What is
Latvian Nokia? This is a new
popular expression among people living in Latvia.
Sometimes Latvians compare themselves to Fins, who have much stronger economics despite very similar history, natural resources and more or less the same mentality.
State and private companies are often hope for a miracle, basically that some of their products or services will bring Latvian economics to much higher level as once Nokia did for Finland.
P.S. this is an old
Soviet public telephone with dial. Quite rare thing nowadays, though.
