Pļavnieki (Fields) is the most densely populated neighbourhood in Riga. The territory of future Plavnieki was incorporated into Riga in 1974, and formed its South-East city border. Nowadays around 50,000 people call this ultra-Soviet area as their home.
Рижский русский театр им. Чехова (Riga Russian Theatre) aka Russian dramatic theater was opened in 1882 and it is the second oldest theater in Riga after Opera. Recently the theater was renovated and now it hosts again many art performances, mostly of Russian origin.
A photo exhibition of historical moments of Latvia is being located at Station Square these days. All these photos of Modern Latvia were on first pages of newspapers and displayed the reality of those days. Unfortunately, none of my Riga photos were picked up :)
Zemitānu tilts is a bridge connecting Center and Purvciems over Zemitanu Railway Station. It was opened in 1985 under the name of Soviet communist Otomārs Oškalns. Although since 1991 it is holding the current name of the small Latvian village next to Lithuanian border. According Riga development plan Oškalnu tilts was supposed to have tramways, but it is still not realised.
The beginning of the new year regularly is being celebrated by choosing the Best Photo of the year! New Year after-party in the brand new Riga nightclub RAЙ (Rai), which name could be translated as Paradise. Rai was open few weeks ago in place of the former ultra-popular club La Rocca, which is connected to Studio 69 Apparently Rai is an affiliate of Moscow club with the same name.
