Moles aka breakwaters are very common structures seen on Latvian coast (e.g. Riga's Mole) and almost all of them are quite romantic, but sometimes dangerous place for promenade.
This one was photographed in Roja on my way from Mersrags to Roja's exit and entrance sign
The harbour in a small fisherman town Mērsrags, which is located on the coast of Riga's gulf.
This is an experiment work created by stitching many small photos by Hugin software into single panoramic photo.
Check for previous stop in Engure or continue to Rojas mols
Floating Dock, which is moored in Engure's port, is a 2 deck barge suitable for living.

Travelling around the world I understand that beaches in Latvia are ones of the most beautiful in the world.
White sand, blue skies and almost no annoying insects. Unfortunately they are like this only few months per year :(
This is the next photo after my stop in Jaunkemeri. The next is Kupla priede Tower.
Cape Kolka is extreme geographical point of Latvia and one of Lativan nature monumenets.
It marks the border between Baltic Sea and Riga Gulf, unfortunately every year Cape Kolka is getting smaller and smaller because of being eaten by the Baltic Sea.
Rigans spend most of the summer weekends at the Baltic sea. There is even an expression, that for people who live too long in Riga the phrase "Go to sea" means driving only 20 minutes by car.
Vakarbuļļu peldvieta (Vakarbulli Bathing site) is the only premium beach within Riga borders.
Beach has got green flag status, which signify of clean water. Also here is a secure car parking, special places for disabled people and children. It is located in one of the most remote Riga parts called Buļļi (Bulls)
Bolderaja Beach is closer to Riga center and has the same landscape as beaches in Jurmala, but it isn't so popular. The beach is technically located in Daugavgriva area, which entirely was a military base, therefore this zone has no any resort infrastructure at all.
Lielupe Beach is the most east beach in Jurmala, basically it is where the resort town starts. It is quite remote from Jurmala central part, and hence quite empty.
Both ferries MS Romantika and MS Silja Festival are on regular daily service between Latvia and Sweden. The prices are relatively cheap, so Stockholm becoming a very popular weekend destinations for many Latvians.
NASA satellite photo of winter in Latvia and neighbour countries Estonia, Russia, Belarus, Lithuania, Sweden. A short ice free strip in the gulf of Riga is made in order to make possible ferry traffic. Psst, Riga is in the very center :)
Today is a birthday of riga.in :) 2 years have passed since Riga Daily Photo was started. Wow, we are taking the sea! :) A lot of work has been done - about 750 photos were published, first appearance in press, transfer to new domain. And there are still many ideas and things to do in order to improve riga.in and get this photoblog to even higher level. For example, I will tell you a little secret, in a few days riga.in will have a brand new stylish smart design :)
Of course all of this take tons of resources. In fact riga.in is not created to make any money hence it is nonprofit project, but on this very special day if you want to help to riga.in, then you are very welcome to make a small gift :)
This weekend in Latvia is especially long. Due official holidays Day of Labour on Friday and Independence Restoration Day on Monday, this weekend became 4 days-long. Many people spend first sunny days in the open, for example on the Jurmala's beach, making barbeque, drinking beer or just walking :)
Zaķusala (Hare Island) is the land strip washed by Daugava river in the middle of Riga. In the past Zakusala island was split into two smaller islands, which both were densely populated. Here were a lot living houses, shops, warehouses and even an hotel. Nowadays Zakusala is home for Radio and TV facilities like TV Tower and TV Center (at the background). The name of the island comes from population of hares which can be found here. By the way, foxes can be found as well :)
Moonlight Party was astounding beach party at Saulkrasti (Sunny Beach). Several arenas with different kinds of electronic music like Trance, Drum and Bass, Techno, House and others. Maxi Jazz (the highlight of this event) + other 50 Djs and thousands of people dancing barefoot made this night full of utterly immense fun and deep emotions. Where else you can swim in the sea and feel its vibrating to the bass? :) I choose one of this photo as the best shot of year 2008.
Mangaļsalas mols or Austrumu mols (Mangalsala mol or Eastern Mol) is one of two mols located within Riga borders on Daugava river. Eastern mol is 1130 meters long and it was completed in the autumn 1861 after eleven years of building.
Modern tower of Daugavgriva Lighthouse was built in 1957. Painted with black and white horizontal bands its flashes every 2.5 seconds. Lights were shown here from 16th century, and since 18th century as regular service. Basically it is the oldest lighthouse in Latvia and the second in Baltic States (after Kopu Lighthouse). Lighthouse is located on the left coast of Daugava river, where it flows into Baltic Sea.
