Valguma iela

Valguma iela (Wet or Moist street) is quiet street in Pardaugava running parallel to Daugava river.
Some years ago after changing the pavement from cobblestone to concrete pavers, Valguma street became popular shortcut to Riga Center avoiding some big traffic jams.

From Riga Center to Zakusala in less than 3 minutes. For the same price as bus, which takes around 25 minutes.

Richard Wagner Strasse (Kaleju iela)

Riharda Vāgnera iela (Richard Wagner street) is a narrow street in Riga Old Town connecting Livu square and Audeju iela.
It is named after famous German composer Richard Wagner.
Richard Wagner was Riga Opera music director in 1837-1839.

I am sorry for misleading you, my dear readers. In fact on this photo is Kalēju iela, which is very similar to real Riharda Vāgnera iela.
Kaleju iela and Riharda Vāgnera iela are parallel to each other and people very often get mixed up :)

Aeroflot

20 years ago the only one airline was serving Riga Airport. It was Soviet Airline - Aeroflot.
I believe, this bag is a very rare exhibit of Soviet epoch, especially because text is written in English language.
Aeroflot is at your service.

Kārlis Ulmanis

Kārlis Ulmanis was one of the most notable Latvian persons. Smart politician and wise governor.
Actually he is the one of few who gain independency for Latvian people.
He is the one, who was not afreaid to dissolve parliament and take control over country. And he was doing the right thing. During his 6 years of rule Latvia was in its golden age.
Unfortonutely, he died as many other Latvian élite people, in exile.

City Mire

The real urban mire could be found in Riga Old Town at the cross of three streets: Kalēju iela, Minsterejas iela and Kungu iela.
For many years here is the same picture. Nothing has been changed, and seems that it's not going to be.
The water is here, because many years ago here was the course of Ridzene river, the famous river which after Riga City was named.

How much for Georgia?

I don't like talks about politics, especially about one which splits Latvian community.
And this is the reason, why I didn't take up the topic related to conflict in Georgia.
But finally, somebody is free and strong enough to tell the true, what is really happening within Georgia.
Leaders of America and Russia have already decided everything, and we (people) are allowed only to watch this theater.

P.S. Interesting how long will live this poster..
Updated: there is more than one such poster in Riga :)

Saint Petersburg - Monthly theme

Riga in Saint Petersburg
This photo was taken in Saint Petersburg, which is one of my most favourite cities.
It is an advertisement of the Latvian National Airline - airBaltic.
The writing in Russian language means:
Riga is the gate to Europe.
I was very proud of Riga, when I saw this expression in a height of a 6 story building.
The flight diagram shows very tight connection between Riga and St Petersburg :)
This photo is for Monthly Theme Day, which is "Sister Cities". Riga is sister city to Saint Petersburg since 1997.
