Tekila Bum is another place in Old Town to go out for drinking in Riga. By the way it is a night club as well. This place is sequel of another Tequila Boom. How fast are you able to drink one meter of Tequila? :)
Dailes teātris (Theater of Arts) is one of the few still working Theaters in Riga. Initially the Daile Theatre was housed in a building at Lacplesa street, but in 1977 the theatre moved to a purpose-built Soviet style structure at Brivibas street 75. How often do yo go to theater? Isn't it boring by comparison with other more modern entertainment?
The wooden building, located on Skolas iela 3, was built in 1905 using German Romanticism and Jugendstil styles. The German writing on top Arbeit ist des Burgers Zierde (The work is citizen's adornment) is one of still living evidences that at some time Riga was German city. See also another photo of German Architecture in Riga.
For the past couple days everybody in Latvia was speaking about Meteorite smashed Latvia country near Mazsalaca, which is about 140km north from Riga. Recently it was revealed that Meteorite is a hoax made up to attract world attention to Latvia :) Yes, we have a good sense of humor :) Check also other attention getting actions: Parade of Blonde women Longest Dance Longest Run Cola and Mentos record
Suddenly this 22 years old man became a hero. His action was a cause for common talk today. In order to see the whole Riga, he climbed on top of the Vansu Tilts tower, which is 110 meters tall :) The police blocked traffic over bridge for more than 4 hours, before man agreed to come down.
Despite being very expensive Patrick Hellmann Collection (aka PHC) has the cheapest fashion website ever. I like this photo because of depicting the lively nature of motion and Riga traffic. It reminds of New York, isn't? :) See also Emporio Armani shop in Riga.
Grūst (Push) is not anymore just a simple writing on some door on Merkela street. Push is the most recently opened night club in Riga, hence people without invitation are waiting in line for some new feelings and inexperienced emotions. The building, which Push is sharing with Fashion club, is still famous under another former club's name Vernissage.
Voldemārs Irbe aka Irbīte is one of the most famous Latvian painters living in Riga. He is notable for pictures of urban environment, hence his works are more interesting for Riga lovers, like all we are :) Painters and autumn colors always are looking more saturated.
Radisson BLU (formerly Radisson SAS) is one of the most prestigious hotel chains represented in Riga. Radisson Hotel is located on riverside with fantastic view towards old town and city center.
Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten (The Bremen Town Musicians) is the name of bronze statue next to St. Peters Church. It is a gift from German city Bremen, the sister city of Riga. The statue depicting donkey, dog, cat, and rooster. Note the mouths that have become shiny. Touching the mouth is said to make wishes come true.
Alberta iela (Albert street) is one of the most famous streets and sights in Riga because of Art Nouveau style buildings. The street itself was named after Bishop Albert from Bremen, the founder of Riga. Each building on the street is unique peace of art, all of them were built in the beginning of 20th century. Since then Alberta iela became the prestigious place to live or have an office.
Few hundreds meters from Riga Central Market, in the area of old warehouses, there is a real Latvian farmer's market. It opens at sunset, and, I guess, works all night long. Here you can buy healthy products grown in Latvia.
Not very old, but abandoned house on Kuģu iela (Ship street), which goes next to Daugava river. Along with with abandoned buildings at Kugu iela like this one or Police Dept (Kugu iela 15), here are a lot of fancy building e.g. Kugu iela 26, Radisson Blu (Kugu iela 24), or Kugu iela 11.
Arsenāla iela (Arsenal street) is 125 meters long street in Old town, which connects Tornu iela and Pils iela. Before 1885 the name of the street was Skolas iela (School street). See current Skolas iela. Nowadays Arsenala iela is the less remarkable street inside of Old Town, here are no any museum, any bar or any other interesting object. Only old warehouses.
This baroque style building was built in 1901 in the then prestigious place of Riga, at the corner of Suworow-Straße (Alexander Suvorov street) and Mühlenstrasse (Mill Street). Today these streets called slightly different Krisjana Barona iela and Dzirnavu iela.
Ты не одна (You are not alone) was recently written on the roof of almost collapsed building in Kliversala area. I guess this phrase is continue of AB Dambis writings, which are just few hundreds meters from this building. The same color, font, style and the way to express feelings of love. I want to love somebody like he does.
Jēzus Evaņģēliski luteriskā baznīca (Evangelic Lutheran Church of Jesus) is a wooden church built in 1822 on Elijas iela. The black wooden building on left has its own photo as well.
It is quite possible that people who hoist flags might don't have any education and therefore there is no wonder that German flag was set in a wrong upside-down way. But how the management of 4 star hotelGarden Palace can miss such a mistake?
Fatima is a kind of coffeeshop in Old Town, here you can have Shisha aka Waterpipe or joint of legalized weed. That kind of places are very new for Riga, but popularity is growing drastically.
A couple of pedestrian tunnels were opened in Riga for the last month. One of them is Tunnel in Daugavgriva. The tunnel goes under Railway, just few meters from Daugavgriva railway bridge. It looks like building is going very fast, but in fact the whole project took more than one month.
September - October is the annual flood season in Riga. Sometimes floods are quite heavy like flood in 2008. But more often Riga gets lucky and only areas next to the sea get flooded for a couple of days.
I guess Black Cats House is one the few Riga sights, which still have not been presented on Riga Daily Photo. The urban legend says that initially Black Cats were installed like they were sh*tting on the Great Guild, the building which is just across the street. Then the guild elders forced owner of this yellow building to turn the cats. Also, here is a famous place called Melnais Kakis.
Dear Anonymous, I have been coming to this house many times during the past month in order to catch better picture and better light, but this is maximum, what I could take with my camera.
The building of Holy Trinity Church looks so modern, so I thought it is a residence of some new movement sect. For a wonder it is Roman Catholic Church, the same as the Virgin of Anguish Church in Old Town. Interesting fact is that almost a half of Riga population practise christianity, however despite 128 Riga religious institutions, only 3% of Rigans regularly attend services.
I guess everybody likes the Prodigy, at least did at some point. Their fifth album Invaders must die is the reason why they came to Riga today again. Unseen show for Latvian capital makes Rigans think that artists are absolutely insane. Or Maybe they are? :)
Skyline is a prestigious Riga bar on 26th floor of Hotel Latvia. Despite being located on Riga top, Skyline's prices are quite affordable even for students like I am :) It is a good place to bring foreign guests in order to show the whole Riga city at once. Check the panoramic view from Skyline.
