Gray Reality

This picture is taken in Purvciems 2 neighbourhood. Actually there is no any difference with Purvciems 3, Zepniekkalns 4 or Imanta 5.
Everything is gray, similar, modest and depressing. Riga has inherited these buildings from Soviet past, which are typical for any city within Eastern Bloc.

It's so sad that the soviet belief was such dreary architecture (unfortunately, there's more than a few buildings in the US that also have that same dreariness)... we saw a lot of the soviet influence in Prague as well...thank goodness you have such lovely buildings elsewhere in your beautiful city!!! And that they're being renovated as well!!!
We got the same horrible concrete boxes in Poland. Grey, dirty and old. But young people still can't afford to buy even small flat. It is just ridiculous.

ahwell..atleast these neighbourhoods are alive, not like for example outside centre neighbourhoods in holland...its just,..boring!! :(
Ah, the memories of smelling urine and alcohol in the lifts and stairways of the ubiquitous concrete soviet buildings came rushing right back.
It looks like the film "the irony of fate or enjoy your bath"!
Very nice (your photo AND the film).
Is a beehive,is terrible live with the neighbor in the soup.
I used to live there many years ago. I love Purvciems. My nostalgia for the place where I grew up doesn't even notice this gloominess.
I would like to thank the author of this blog. Good work. Nice photos! Ah, they make me feel homesick. :)
Thanks a lot. Спасибо.:)
