Ramshackle Street

Can you believe, that this is heart of european capital Riga?
Just 3 minutes walking from main sightseeings and you are in time of war :(

Temporary Riga photos are being published not in a regular manner due to blog author has moved to Vilnius.

There's such a big contrast between the two sides of this street. A very striking photo.
I remember my first visit to Riga, in 2005. I was there with a group of friends from different countries, most of them were just interested in the very central part and were complaining it was cold. But just with one of them we have decided to do a bit more "sightseing" than recommended in all the tourist guides, i.e. we went a bit outside the city centre, just a tiny bit... The differences we could see were really striking. And I don't only meen the contract between the houses in different parts of the city, but also the extremely poor people living there.
"extremely poor people living there" - I bet you're from Bangladesh and your turban is dirty
Oh, yes. That's what half a century of Communism can do with even the most beautiful cities. It will take a lot of time and money top recover.
Before war Riga used to be called the "Little Paris" and was fancy European capital. After war it became just another province center of Soviet Russia.
