FIFA Football World Cup 2014 is going to start in a few days, unfortunately Latvian Natiaonal team haven't managed to get into final part, which will take place in Brazil.
Likely almost every of us, Latvians, has another or two favourite team :)
Personally, I like to watch football with friends in shot bar Spot Kafe. Spot is a good place in Old town with few large TVs always showing sport games.
Since a couple of years it is illegal to drive through Dome Square, but many drivers still don't know it and get caught by police, which always is very helpful and show you the right direction, especially if you are sitting behind the wheel of the new expensive car.
Zelta Paradīze (Gold Paradise) is a jewelry shop in Old Town on Grecenieku iela. Huge icicles is the result of constantly changing weather last days. Now walking in town is more dangerous than ever.
Рижский русский театр им. Чехова (Riga Russian Theatre) aka Russian dramatic theater was opened in 1882 and it is the second oldest theater in Riga after Opera. Recently the theater was renovated and now it hosts again many art performances, mostly of Russian origin.
Konventa sēta (Convent Yard) aka Konventhof is a quiet area in the middle of Old Town. Formerly it was a fortified area and the residence of the Sword Brothers Brotherhood. On the picture is the wall of the building, which has written chronicles of Konventa seta and Riga
Nightclub The Club is located in Old town. To be precise it is in the same premises on Kungu iela as former Steam Club and even more former Nautilus club :) It was open in June 2010.
Cinema Bar aka Cinamon is a quiet and cheap place in the middle of Old Town on Kaleju iela. This movie-themed bar has the lowest beer price in town, like in French Bar. The beer price is 0,70 Ls (less than 1 EUR) for 0,5 liters, hence they are often run out of it :)
Yesterday, on Saturday morning I was a witness to unknown procession in Old Town on Kalku iela. People were carrying flag of Latvia and another one similar to Italy or Hungary, but flag holders were not looking like Italians nor Hungarians :) Does anybody know what kind of parade it was?
Kungu iela (Lord street) is a street parallel to Daugava river in Old Town, hence its former name Daugava street.
Another old name of this street is Siļķu iela (Herring street), which was derived from traders of fish used to gather here, because they were not allowed to trade at Market Square.
Today is snowing again, I guess 3rd time this year..
Staro in Latvian means Shine. Staro Riga is the name of annual light festival which was held 18-22 November. This photo of Alexander Bridge was taken by Delfi's photographer.
