Embassy of United States

I guess that nobody in Riga think that residence of American Embassy on Raina boulevard is a nice building, which adorns city.
Despite its very center location (it is next nearest building to French Embassy) it looks like a fortified warehouse.
For openers the building has 24*7 strong security, 2 fences and the window guards.

I guess in every country American Ambassy has biiig fence around. In Bratislava, Slovakia they have real fortress ;)
Seedy building.
Hello!
Your blog is just amazing! Great pictures and descriptions...well done!
Keep it up!
Agree. Not to nice to look at. The word these days is security and that takes precedence.
Have you seen photos of the new monstrosity in Baghdad?
The current U.S. chancery at 7 Raina Boulevard was built in 1863 and served as Reimers Eye Clinic until the mid-1930's. It then became an office building. During the Soviet period it housed the Construction Affairs Committee and the Riga city architectural and construction control board. After a preliminary dedication ceremony on February 7, 1992 at which Vice President Dan Quayle presided, the building formally opened as the U.S. embassy on April 10, 1992.

It sure looks good to American citizens!
Notice how its countries that have skeleton in their closets that need security at their embassies "USA, Russia, Israel". I doubt the Embassy of Finland in Riga has double fences with armed security outside
I guess I would say it's countries with dangerous enemies, not necessarily 'skeletons in their closets,' that need strict security. When was the last time a Finnish embassy was bombed?
Actually the closest building is Riga State Gymansium No. 1. The best school in Latvia. It is between the US embassy and the French one.
