Recycling Containers

No one sorts waste in Latvia, hence public dumps look terrible and have a dreadful stench kilometers around.
I was quite surprised founding these 2 containers for waste recycling in a small village called Lapmezciems
In fact almost nobody use them, because the required public education program simply doesn't exist.

It's a shame that a country like Latvia, so "green" and so worried sometimes about its environment, doesn't make any effort to promote recycling...! For me it's something hard to believe...
Wow! I'm really surprised! In the U.S., it seems like everyone is recycling everything. Some people recycle plastic, glass, metal, paper, batteries, bags, and have almost no trash left over. It's a huge push here. Many people burn in barrels whatever trash they have left over, to keep landfills smaller. I thought all of Europe was ahead of the U.S. on this topic.
