Controllers
One of the most disrespected jobs is ticket controller in public transport.
A lot of people have no money to pay a ticket, some don't want to spend money or simply forget to buy one.
Very often controllers used to get beaten or humiliated.
So now they work in groups not less than 4 people and sometimes even with police together.
This helps to prevent savage conflicts and makes people to pay fine, which is 5Ls (7EUR)
The price of regular ticket is 0,50Ls (0,70 EUR)

I'm spending the entire August here, in Latvia and... I've been asked to show my ticket to these people in these days more than in my entire life in Barcelona! Now, this is serious job! :)

Maybe people go without tickets because the fine is so low?
Ih you nee to go only 1 or 2 stops, you don't want to buy a ticket which I think cost a lot. And these controllers are out of their minds. When they scream on the old people or little children that they shooould pay.. When they really have month ticket, but they forgot it and they don't have money to buy a new one. Really, I know what it is.. They are monsters~!! No.. Idiots!!
i was cougt by police on bus that i have no ticket on me but i had alrewady been checked by controller . Only thing was my gf was out on one stop and had the tickets and me was suppose to of next one but in the middle police caught me . Since i was a foreigner and their english was worser then my latvian they let me go . now i understand thay must get me charges . but i have a right to complain higher up and get it ower .
i agree, fine seems to be low, also as i remember when i was in riga -tickets are being checked very rarely, it encourages people to risk:) in my city, now fines are very high, also they check tickets often -i dont wanna fight wiht controllers, and so i have to buy a ticket...
