One of the very first photos in this blog, was the picture of a place, where New Library is going to be built.
Almost 7 years has been passed, and here it is, the new Latvian National Library aka Latvijas Nacionālā bibliotēka.
There are still some works going on, so it is not officially open yet.
Also, there are other photographs of LNB building taken from the same spot during the 7 years.
This photo of Latvian National Library during Staro Riga is selected in order to give you an opportunity to compare how LNB was looking in during Staro Riga 2008. Photo's source is Delfi. BTW, check the timeline of LNB Building since 2007.
One of long-term projects within this blog is watching of the Latvian National Library construction site. Check the timeline of LNB photos I took from the same position for the last 3 years. Still 2 years to go...
Uzvaras bulvāris (Victory boulevard) runs from Stone Bridge till Arcadia Park. The total length is 1024 meters. As many streets in Kliversala area, Uzvaras Bulvaris also had past related to Watercraft. The former name of boulevard is Schoonerstrasse (улица Шкунная, Schoneru iela). The main sights are National Library, Railway Museum, Victory park and monument.
Mūkusala iela 46 - is the address of Trodeks main office. It is located between Railway bridge and Islands' bridge. An advanced mobile phone repair shop is also located here, which looks more like kinda laboratory from inside.
Finally some part of the building could be seen. Can you see the red frames above the grey fence? :) Comparing to the last photos of LNB Building, this one depicts a big step forward.
Hammer and Sickle is one of the most famous symbols of Soviet Union. Some of them still can be found in Riga, for example this one is in Mukusala area. You can see St Peter's Church through the embankment fence.
Bar aka restaurant Barselona in Pardaugava. Popular Latvian website Delfi office is just behind the building. By the way, I recommend you to visit sister blog Barcelona Daily Photo
As you can see for the past 3 months the view of the most important building in Latvia is not changed. If you compare this photo to the previous one, then you won't notice any difference, except removed graffiti from the fence. But National Library is still under construction. Despite financial crisis and heavy critics is going on and on!
Actually it is not a river, but canal in Mukusala area. During autumn it looks really ghastly. In fact it has own official name Kileveina gravis (Kilevein ditch)
Snow in Riga has melted down after few days, and grey autumn again covered the city. Wires over Valguma iela and Uzvaras bulvāris cross. On the left hand is the building of LNB. Also check live webcam of LNB building
Last night in Riga was quite rage blizzard. In the morning everybody discovered the consequences of that like traffic jams and delay in transport. Riga is not ready for that kind of winter :) It took 3 times longer for me to reach my workplace. Railway Museum in the snow.
Unfortunately, I didn't took a shot when the foundations of Latvian National Library were laid. But I still continue making shots from the same position as one year before. This picture was taken around begin of October 2008. Have a look how it was in November 2007 January 2008 March 2008 Or all pictures of LNB Building together.
This is the where Latvian National Library (LNB) will be build. There is no consensus of opinions about this building. Because this project can take a lot of money from national budget. But really, does Latvia really need in so big and nice Library? Do people living in latvia read a lot of books? I think, books already are in past. National Library building in January 2008. National Library building in March 2008. Or all pictures together.
Webcam over Daugava river towards building of Latvian National Library and Mukusalas street in front of it. This webcam photo is being updated every 2 seconds.
