1st of May is International Day of Labor, therefore I would like to focus on some of the Latvian TOP 50 companies. Latvijas Finieris (Latvian Plywood) provides job for more than 1500 workers, which is big number for Riga.
The factory was founded in 1873 as Latvijas Bērzs. It was producing wood materials for schools and households.
Olaine celebrates its 45th anniversary this year. Usually town's festival takes place in the last weekend of Spring.

Main office of Danish Danske Bank, previously known as Sampo Bank (which used to be Finnish one).
Danske Banka is one of 25 banks. Interesting fact that there is a ratio of 1 bank per 40,000 residents if Latvia.
It gets even strange if we do compare to neighboring Lithuania, which has 1 bank per 500,000 residents (7 banks in total)
Accenture is an global consulting company, which is located in so called Latvian Silicon Valley, the former VEF. Accenture has more than 300 employee, which makes it the largest IT Company in Riga.
Nowadays, the territory of the former electronics factory VEF is a home for many IT companies in Riga. Accenture, Nano Hosting, Idea Port Riga, Datartis, Interneta Pasaule and many other companies offices are located in these buildings. Therefore we can call this area as a Silicon Yard, as analogy to Silicon Valley in California :)

Ziemeļu Vārti (North Gate) is another office building, which adorns Riga since 2006. It is located on the fork of two streets, Brivibas iela and Cesu iela, and technically belongs to Brasa area. I have absolutely no idea why it's named Northern Gate. Eastern Gate (location-wise) would suit much better.
Duntes biroji is a modern office building, which was built in 2007 on Duntes street, obviously :) A lot of large and famous companies like Statoil, Samsung, Ericsson, Minolta, etc have office here.
This modern Soviet Building is the headquarter of two extremely popular Latvian media channels European Hits Radio and Latvijas Neatkarīga Televīzija (Latvian iNdependent Television) The building itself is built in 1986 on Elijas iela 17, Maskachka in Soviet Avant-garde architecture style.
Riga World Trade Center's tasks are like in every Western oriented country. Perform international exhibitions, promote Latvia on international market for profitable trade. The building itself was built in 1974 and originally was an head office of Communist Party in Latvia. It was built from the best and the most expensive materials, hence it remains modern look uptillnow.
Riga Diesel Engine Factory was founded in 1949 and located in the most industrial area called Sarkandaugava. The central office building was built in 1985 and represents another master piece of Soviet Architecture.
Siemens office and the brick water tower next to one of the parking lots in Riga Airport. The biggest invention of Siemens was the telegraph and in the mid of 19th century Werner von Siemens got an order from Petersburg to commute cities around Russian Empire. It was the first international order of Siemens.
Riga was one of the first cities which got direct telegraph line with Saint Petersburg thankfully to Siemens.
The main office building of DnB Nord Bank is already in use, although it is not absolutely ready yet. It has the most original shape among all buildings in Riga. Personally it recalls me Grande Arche in Paris. See also another DnB Nord Office in winter.
Mūkusala iela 46 - is the address of Trodeks main office. It is located between Railway bridge and Islands' bridge. An advanced mobile phone repair shop is also located here, which looks more like kinda laboratory from inside.
These days are burning hot in Riga. The LMT Office's thermometer is showing +35°C (95°F) It is more fun, when you look at the winter picture taken 5 months Ago in January, when it -21°C.
Centra Nams (Centre House) is located, obvisously, in the very center of Riga, in historical area of Citadel. It was built in 2005 as the first premium apartment building in Riga.
Ēku celtniecības kombināts (House-Building Combine) was built in 80s in the place of old shipyard in Ilgucimes. Typical Soviet architecture style of this office building is very similar to another Soviet masterpiece Press House.
Latvian Patent Office located in Citadel area has a long history, which is split by Soviet times. Initially Patent Office was opened in 1920 and was very productive since the very first days. Nowadays approximately 200 national inventions are being registered annually. I hope at least one of them will make Latvia world famous one day :)
