Pulkvedim neviens neraksta (Nobody Writes to the Colonel) is a famous nightclub in Old Town named after the eponymous novella by Colombian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It was opened in 2001 and it is located just across the bohemian Kabata club. These both places definitely can't be called mainstream clubs. Although it is not total alternative ones. Pulkvedis is just an good old small nightclub.
This unique for Riga building is located on Pulkveza Brieza street, next to Elizabetes street. It always reminds me Amsterdam because of red brick and gabled roof.

A new real estate project Trijādības nams located in Kliversala was finished in 2008. As many others new apartment buildings it is more empty than occupied now. Trijadibas nams could be translated in English as Trinity House.
Traveling around the world I have noticed that advertisement in Latvia is always at much higher level than in any other country. For example, Latvian marketers can easily shake the whole world with fake Meteorite :) Social and health problems are also often being solved with creative ads. Now it is time to fight Hepatitis or hepatits. The writing at bicycle says "Don't eat everything you meet" Have you seen that old yellow bikes? There are plenty of them in town.
Rīgas baptistu Vīlandes draudze (Vilande Baptist Church) is a Christian Church located in area called Quiet Center. The Church was built in 1887. The first public liturgy has took a place next year, in 1888. During the Soviet times this building was home for both Baptists and Adventists, which I guess had affected Vilande Church's regulations. Despite Vilande Church is currently affiliated with the Latvian Baptist Churches, it has notably distinct way of thinking if we compare it to St. Matthew Baptist Church.
Lidojošā varde (Flying Frog) is a nice cafe in a quiet center on the crossroads of Elizabetes and Antonijas. It is famous because of picturesque location next to Albert street and other architecture examples of Art Nouveau. Despite a little bit high prices on food, the bar is still affordable for almost everybody.
In the summer Riga looks like any other Western European city. A lot of local people go out, happy tourists are visiting town, brasserie are open in the center :) This Summer Terrace is next to one of the many Steiku Haoss restaurants in Riga.
Reflection of water is making an optical illusion of continuous basin depicted on this photo. In fact here are 2 water bodies; a pool next to Swedbank and Daugava river, which flows on different level. This picture is participating in Monthly Theme Day Reflections. Somebody may think that Latvians are obsessed with Christmas, because we are already counting the days left till the New Year. The big reason to expect Christmas and New Year eve is the celebration of 500 years since First Christmas tree was placed in Riga. 152 days are left till the fifth centenary of Christmas tree, which is already installed in Old Town. See photo of counter in winter.
BalticBike is another service of AirBaltic. 11 bicycle dock-stations were opened last week in Riga and Jurmala. although the price to rent a bike is quite high comparing to other European cities. Price per hour is 1Ls. For example Velib in France offers first 30 minutes for free.
Triumphal Arch was built in 1815 in honour of decisive Russian victory over French army of Napoleon I. The memorial has official name Alexander Gate, because initially it was built on Alexander street, next to present VEF Bridge. Nowadays it is located in Viesturs Garden.
Bolderaja Beach is closer to Riga center and has the same landscape as beaches in Jurmala, but it isn't so popular. The beach is technically located in Daugavgriva area, which entirely was a military base, therefore this zone has no any resort infrastructure at all.
Cafe Старая Рига (Staraya Riga means Old Riga) is another sign of Riga's spirit outside Latvia. It is located in Moscow, in a quite prestigious Basmanny District.
Black Magic place has nothing to do with the powers of darkness, or maybe it has :) It is a cafe shop, which is offering Melnais balzams (Black Balsam), the traditional Latvian alcoholic drink. 80-proof balsam made with herbs and spices and often being served mixed with coffee.
